A 49-year old man, Elisha Chris who reportedly deceived the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA and practiced as a lawyer for 15 years without detection has been arrested in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped that Chris, though he was fake started practice in 2003 and had trashed many genuine practitioners before the court and won many cases against them before he was arrested recently.
Chris was arrested at the Magistrates Court sitting in Ojo area of Lagos where he had gone to represent a client.
It turned a black day for him as he was interrogated on serious suspicion that he was a fake lawyer, was apprehended and handed over to the Police at Ojo Division.
The incident left many wondering even the lawyers present at the court premises, how Chris maneuvered for those years and even humiliated some lawyers by defeating them at various courts. It was also gathered that Chris participated in all the activities of NBA and even paid the required practicing levies and was a diligent member of the association before the incident.
The suspect was later handed over to the police X-Sqaud at the Lagos Police Command, Ikeja. They investigated Chris and found him culpable.
He was arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates Court for impersonation and forgery.
According to the police, Chris falsely made representations as a member of the court officials, forged international court stamps and seals and claimed to be a lawyer.
He pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate granted Elisha Chris bail with two sureties and ordered him to be remanded in prison customhouse pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 13 March, 2018.
