Some people, referred to as hoodlums, illegal occupants and squatters, have been sent away from one of the properties belonging to a former Inspector General of Police, Mike Mbama Okiro.

The former IGP, Sir Okiro, said he decided to seal up his property located in the heart of Oshodi, a commercial business hub in Lagos, in order not to soil his good name.

According to the report reaching P.M.EXPRESS, the property was said to have been taken over by persons of questionable characters, hoodlums, fraudsters and misfits.

The former IGP decided to take the decision and dislodge illegal occupants of his property because there had been series of complaints from neighbours on how his property had been taken over by hoodlums, fraudsters and other misfits, including illegal squatters, who turned the place into a criminal hideout.

Speaking about his decision, the Ex-IGP and former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, PSC, Okiro said, “There has been series of complaints about the occupants of the said property and I did visit the place to assess the situation. I found out that these persons occupying the said property are of questionable character, they illegally converted my property into what the structure was not meant for, and any time they run foul of the law, the address of the place comes up, as if they are my legal tenants”.

He went on to lament that, “it is a conspiracy to tarnish my good name by some persons, by letting out my property to these group of persons”.
“I want to retain and protect my reputation and good name; I don’t want these characters to soil them” he said.

He further explained that his call to national duties as Inspector General of Police and later as Chairman, Police Service Commission, did not allow him enough time to supervise the property, resulting in criminals taking over the place.
He explained that, “Contrary to claims, nobody was forcefully ejected”.
“I only sealed up the property after negative reports from neighbours reached me and I did visit the place to assess the situation and I realised it was taken over by people of questionably character” he said.
