CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 30-year old fake Medical Doctor, Emmanuel Tochukwu Uweh, has been charged to Court in Lagos for allegedly swallowing a razor blade inside Police cell in order to terminate his life.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Area G Command, Ogba, Lagos, where Uweh was detained inside the cell for allegedly committing a criminal offence.
He was said to have smuggled a rope inside the cell and attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself but the rope was not strong enough and he then swallowed a razor blade but was caught by the Police officer on duty.
The defendant, Uweh, was alleged to have on 30th April, 2021, at Ologun Street, Oke-Ira area of Ogba, Lagos, obtained the sum of N1m from a woman, Adetola Adeoye, under false pretence of purchasing medical equipment for her.
He was said to have claimed to be a Medical Doctor, which he used to convince the woman, diverted the money and did not supply any equipment.
The matter was then reported to the Police and he was arrested and detained inside the cell before he attempted to commit suicide.
Uweh was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for impersonation, obtaining under false pretense and attempted suicide.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. J.A. Adegun, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 9th September, 2021, for mention.
