Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, have arrested an 18-year old girl, Miss Ujunwa Offiah, who conspired with her two friends and arranged her abduction in order to obtain N30m ransom from her family.
P.M.EXPRESS reports as disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the two suspects were in Police custody.
He said that the Police arrested the duo of Precious Chukwu, F, 22 and Ujunwa Offiah, F, 18, for conspiring with one Ifesinachi Blessed, M, 26, of Coker area of Lagos State, to stage a kidnapping case.
SP Adejobi explained that the duo are girlfriends to the mastermind, Ifesinachi, who is an Uber driver but presently on the run after the Police foiled their game plan.
He said, “The fleeing suspect, Ifesinachi, kept Ujunwa at a place and placed calls across to her family that she had been kidnapped. He pretended as a kidnapper and demanded for ransom of 30 million Naira”.
“They eventually negotiated, with the help of his other girlfriend, Precious Chukwu, and agreed to pay him N700,000 (seven hundred thousand Naira only) before he ‘released’ Ujunwa.”
However, the Police swung into action and later discovered that it was a staged kidnapping, and there were immediately arrested and detained for investigation where they confessed.
The Police spokesman, Adejobi, said that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has ordered that the feeling suspect be arrested and the suspects will be charged before the Court after the conclusion of investigations.
