Jilted 19-year old Abdulsalam Abdulganiu has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a teenage girl, Ganiyat Aromire, by tearing her clothes in public during a squabble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ojo Oba area of Abule Egba, Lagos, where they reside.
He was charged for beating the victim with first blows and tearing her clothes in public for allegedly rejecting him while attempting to woo her.
The alleged assault was reported to the Police in the area. The operatives moved into action, arrested and detained him at the station for his alleged conduct, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
During the interrogation, the suspect told the Police that the girl insulted him and he was unable to bear it, they engaged in public brawl and he mistakenly tore her clothes.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
