Some men suspected to be fraudsters have reportedly defrauded the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Olumifumilayo Atilade to the tune of N7million.
The incident happened between January and March 2017 when the suspects committed the alleged offence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that one of the suspects, Sulamon Aminu has been arrested and charged before Ebute Meta Magistrates court for allegedly defrauding the judge.
It was gathered that the money in question was not Justice Atilade’s personal funds but the left over money from building approval payment that was supposed to have been returned to the Lagos State government account as directed by the judge.
Police source said Aminu forged the Lagos State government revenue receipt to cover the act, they diverted the money and shared accordingly.
However, the alleged fraud leaked, the judge discovered and handed Aminu over to the police for investigation and prosecution.
It was gathered that the other accomplices involved in the scam were said to be on the run and at large.
Aminu was therefore charged before Ebute Meta Magistrates court for conspiracy and stealing under the criminal code.
When the matter came up at the court, the prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike pleaded with the court to order the suspect to be remanded in prison custody for DPP advice.
Consequently, the presiding Magistrate, A.O. Salawu ordered Aminu to be remanded in prison custody pending when the DPP advice will be out.
The matter was adjourned till 5 September, 2017.
