A 50-year old landlady, Mrs. Hannah Adako, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly hiring thugs to destroy her tenant’s properties and throwing them away over ejection.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Dayo Adako Street, Idimu area of Lagos State, where the house is located.
The tenant, Anifowose Olarewaju, suffered his fate after the landlady asked him to move out without properly serving him a quit notice or going to Court to follow due process.
She was said to have told her neighbours that she would not waste time by going to Court to eject Olarewaju and so she decided to eject him and his family in a crude manner.
According to Police, the landlady, Mrs. Hannah Adako, reportedly hired thugs and brought them to the house. They first detained Olarewaju and members of his family before the thugs invaded the house and destroyed everything found inside before they threw all the properties outside and left.
The matter was reported to the Idimu Police Division and the landlady, Mrs. Adako, was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the conduct. She was asked to produce those thugs who destroyed the properties and threw everything out but she refused.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conspiracy and willfully damaging the properties belonging to the tenant, Olarewaju worth N7m.
She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs K.A. Ariyo, granted her bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 19th December, 2022, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
