A 23-year old man, Hassan Ibrahim, has allegedly brutally murdered his 90-year-old father, Sabi Ibrahim and buried his corpse in a shallow grave in order to eventually have access to his bank account.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ajibesin area, Okolowo, in Ilorin, Kwara State.
He has been arrested and detained by Police operatives from the Kwara State Police Command, where he is undergoing interrogation over the dastardly act.
The late Pa Sabi met his fate after he took his son, Hassan, to a bank to facilitate some transactions and in the process, Hassan had access to his bank account private details and decided to kill him and steal the money.
This was confirmed by the State Police Pubic Relations Officer, SP Okansanmi Ajayi, who stated that on 5th August, 2022, one Aishat Ibrahim visited the Police and reported that her 90-year old dad was missing and the Police moved into action, which led to the arrest of the suspect, Ibrahim, who is the biological son of the old man.
“During investigation, the suspect, Hassan, confessed to have administered paracetamol injection mixed with other substances on his father and he became weak and dizzy immediately after the injection. He did that after coming from the bank, where he took his father to renew and collect his ATM card. He took the father on a motorcycle, which he borrowed to convey his father to an isolated uncompleted building and strangulated his father to death. He dug a shallow grave, where he buried his father after dispossessing him of the ATM card which they went to the bank to collect” SP Ajayi said.
The Police spokesperson stated that after the suspect committed the dastardly act, he escaped to Kaduna State and started withdrawing from his late father’s account to the total sum of N59,000 before he was tracked and arrested.
He stated further that the purpose of killing his father was to dispossess him of the ATM card since he already knew the pin. He also sold the borrowed motorcycle and eloped to Kaduna State, where he was eventually arrested.
The ATM card and the stolen motorcycle had been recovered as exhibits and are in Police custody while the suspect will be charged before the Court for murder but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
