Police operatives have arrested a 44-year old man, Daniel Ifeagwu, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s 12-year old down syndrome patient in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ajiboye Street, Ile Epo area of Lagos State, where the suspect, Ifeagwu resides with the victim’s parents.
The suspect, Ifeagwu, was said to have targeted whenever the victim’s parents went out for work leaving her alone in the house and he would lure the victim into his apartment and engage her in sex.
The Police said that the alleged abuse had been going on for almost two years before it was exposed.
In the charge, the Police alleged that the suspect had between April 2021 to 2nd December, 2022, lured the victim severally to his apartment and engaged her in sex romp without her consent.
The alleged dastardly act was exposed after the victim revealed what had been happening to her parents by pointing at Ifeagwu and the matter was reported to the Police; he was then arrested and detained for interrogation over his conduct.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to have done so but with the consent of the victim, who is a minor and physical challenged.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody without an option of bail pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The matter was adjourned till 17th January, 2023, for report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
