How Man, 50, Posed As Navy Captain At Lagos Task Force Office To Release Seized Vehicles

A 50-year old man, Kolawole Robert Johnson, has been arrested for allegedly posing as a Nigerian Navy Captain with uniform at the Lagos State Task Force Chairman to release some seized vehicles and he was discovered to be a fake Naval officer.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Task Force Chairman suspected during interrogation that he was a fake Navy Captain and immediately ordered for his arrest and detention for further investigation.
The incident happened on 13th January, 2026, at State Task Force office at Oshodi area of Lagos.
During the investigation, the Police discovered that he was not a member of the Nigerian Navy talk less of having the rank of a Captain.
He was found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and impersonation under the Criminal Law of the State.
The charges read:
“That you, Kolawole Robert Johnson ‘m’ and others now at large, on the 13th day of January, 2026 at about 1450hrs, at Lagos State Task Force at Oshodi, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Impersonation and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Kolawole Robert Johnson ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did intentionally impersonate yourselves on full Nigerian Navy uniform as a captain, presented yourself to a constituted authority to the office of the Chairman Lagos State Task Force and ordered that all impounded vehicles should be released to you and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 77(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Kolawole Robert Johnson ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did intentionally and knowingly dress in full Nigeria Navy uniform and forged one Nigeria Navy Identity card without lawful authority with intent that on your appearance and presentation you purported to be acting upon as a genuine serving Nigerian Navy personnel and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 363(1)(a)(b)(2)(c) and Punishable under Section 365(1)(2)(a&b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
