A 52-year old, Kizito Chukwu, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly lured a 12-year old girl into sex and got her impregnated in the process which eventually exposed him.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Kizito, has been arrested and charged for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The incident happened in March, 2023, at Sewekan Close, Ajara-Vetho, Badagry area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, while Kizito is in trouble for defiling the victim, he was alleged to have also sexually harassed the victim’s 16-year old eldest sister before the alleged dastardly act got exposed.
The girl’s parents were said to have noticed that she was sick and her body changed. Then a test was conducted on her and she was confirmed to be pregnant. When interrogated, she mentioned Kizito as the one behind the pregnancy.
The matter was reported to the Police and the suspect, Kizito, was arrested. And having been found culpable after rounds of interrogation, he was charged before the Badagry Magistrate Court for the alleged defilement by having unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor leading to unwanted pregnancy.
The prosecutor, Supol Clement Okuoimose, told the Court that Chukwu  committed the alleged offence at his residence and the offence contravened the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Fadahunsi Adefioye, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Awajighor Correctional Centre and directed the  prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send it to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned till 31st October, 2023, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
