It is no longer news that the Super Eagles, three-time AFCON champions defeated the Squirrels of Benin Republic at the AFCON qualifier match last weekend.
What is news however is the massive support the National team received from MTN Nigeria to facilitate their trip to Porto Novo and back.
According to a report by The Cable, MTN Nigeria provided two boats and seven crew members in addition to insurance policy covers required for the team to embark on the national engagement.
The Gernot Rohr-led team took off and docked at the Falomo jetty in Ikoyi, Lagos, which was built by the telecommunications service provider for the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).
CEO Karl Toriola said: ‘MTN is a big supporter of Nigerian football, and we appreciate the opportunity to further our support for the sports, the players, and the fans.’
Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigerian Football Federation says MTN’s support towards getting the Super Eagles to Port Novo on Friday, and back to Lagos on Sunday, was ‘invaluable’.
‘We thank MTN Nigeria specially for making the journey possible. And we look forward to even more support from them, and other well-meaning Nigerian businesses.
