How Police Arrested Niger Republic Child Merchant With Abducted 13 Months Old Baby

Police intelligence operatives attached to the Lagos State Command have arrested a 45-year old man from Niger Republic, who allegedly usually comes to steal babies and take them to his country for sale.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Umar Sakariyau, was alleged to have gone to Railway Line at Agege on 4th June, 2023, and stole a 13-months old baby girl identified as Hassana Hamza, from her mother, Salamatu Hamza.
He had already escaped before the baby’s mother discovered that she was missing and she could not find her baby.
The mother went to the Police at Isokoko Division and reported the missing of the baby.
The Police moved into action and later apprehended the suspect, Sakariyau and rescued the baby at Berger area of Lagos, on his way to taking her to Niger Republic.
Upon his arrest, he was detained at the Police Station for interrogation. While being interrogated there, he confessed that he was taking the baby to his village in Niger Republic while the baby’s mother was not aware.
The Police therefore, found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court.
However,  he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 4th July, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
