How Police Arrested Suspected Armed Robber Using Cutlass To Rob At Lagos/Ibadan Express

Operatives of the Ketu Police Division have arrested a 23-year-old man, Waheed Olalede, for allegedly participating in an armed robbery attack at Y-Junction, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Ketu.

 

The suspect was arrested following a complaint that he and others now at large attacked a victim with cutlasses and robbed him of valuables and cash.

 

According to the Police, the incident occurred on May 31, 2026 at about 11:00pm at Y-Junction, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Ketu.

 

The victim, Hammed Alagbe, was allegedly robbed of a Minix Smart 10 phone valued at N150,000 and N200,000 cash during the attack.

Police sources said the suspects were armed with 3 cutlasses which they used to attack the victim before dispossessing him of his belongings.

The case was transferred to the court after investigation by the Ketu Division under CSP Obeth Hamma H. the Divisional Police Officer.

The suspect was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court.

 

The Commissioner of Police filed a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery, and assault against the defendant.

In Count I, the prosecution alleged that on May 31, 2026 at about 11:00pm at Y-Junction, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Ketu, Waheed Olalede and others now at large conspired amongst themselves to commit felony to wit armed robbery and assault.

The offence is punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

In Count II, the Police alleged that on the same date, place and time, the defendant and others robbed Hammed Alagbe of one Minix Smart 10 valued at N150,000 and the sum of N200,000.

The prosecution said at the time of the robbery, the defendant and his gang were armed with 3 cutlasses, offensive weapons used to attack the victim.

The offense is punishable under Section 297(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

In Count III, the charge stated that the defendant and others now at large unlawfully assaulted Hammed Alagbe by cutting him with cutlasses.

The act is punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The matter was prosecuted by IPO ASP Peace Ejezie of Ketu Police Station.

The Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the Prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

 

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it send it to the DPP for advice.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine the jurisdiction.

Legal experts say the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the Court of competent jurisdiction.

 

Details of the defendant’s plea and bail application were yet to be taken as at the time of filing this report. The court is expected to announce the date of arraignment and adjournment.
