How Police Intercepted Cannabis Worth N150m During operation

The fight against illicit drugs in Lagos had a big boost after Police operatives intercepted some substances, suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, with a street value of N150 Million for distribution across the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the substances, which were dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were packed in 328 bags coming to Lagos for distribution for sales before the Police intelligence apprehended the driver and intercepted the goods.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, who paraded the suspects while the owners of the items were said to be at large.

He said that the suspected illicit drugs were recovered by the surveillance team in parts of the state through credible intelligence and they were apprehended and recovered as exhibits.The police boss wondered how such quantity of drugs were brought to the State and the targeted users were the youths in the State which aids them to commit various crimes such as armed robbery, rape, kidnapping and other criminal offences.

He assured that the Police under his Command will continue to ensure that the State was safe and criminals will not have space to operate in the State.

In the same vein, CP Odumosu said that the operatives impounded a total number of 1,506, vehicles, 1858 motorcycles and 156 tricycles in the last one month.
While expatiation on the vehicles, the Police Commissioner said “1,506 vehicles were impounded which included 210 vehicles intercepted for interstates travel, 1,858 motorcycles and 156 tricycles were also impounded.

Commenting on the COVID-19 enforcement, Odumosu said, ” The Command has successfully arrested 3,375 violators. Out of the number 2,600 were arrested for violating curfew, 208 arrested for face mask, 90 arrested for not maintaining social distance and 477 arrested for interstates travel”.
He said that since the interstate lockdown has been lifted, the Police will continue to monitor the activities of criminals to ensure that they did not enter the State under any disguise to commit any crime.
