Police operatives from the Lagos State Command may have started to aggressively tackle the activities of criminal elements as promised by the Commissioner of Police, CP Fayoade Adegoke, across the State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the operatives from the Commissioner of Police Special Squad 2 have arrested four suspected armed robbers with a double barrel gun in Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos State.
The suspects, Riliwan Kareem, 53, Adejumo Noah, 31,Oluwadada Oluwasegun, 26 and Babatunde Rasheed, were accosted by the Police on routine monitoring in the area.
During the search, the Police found the gun inside the vehicle and they were arrested having been suspected to be armed robbers and were consequently detained at the State Command for interrogation.
In the course of investigation, the suspects denied being armed robbers but were unable to give satisfactory account of the gun found with them during the operation.
This was confirmed by the Police boss while parading them at the State Command at Ikeja Headquarters. He explained that on 11th January, 2024, the suspects were arrested in possession of one local fabricated double barrel gun in a bus driven by Uzoma Chukwu at Adetola Street, Aguda area of Surulere, Lagos and they claimed to be members of OPC under the Command of one Owolabi.
However, after the investigation, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and being in possession of the gun.
The defendants risk several years of imprisonment as the Police recovered the gun as exhibit to be presented before the Court.
They were remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, pending when they will face trial.
