CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
Facts have emerged on how a 50-year old married woman, simply identified as Mrs. Doris, was gang-raped and murdered by a gang of armed robbers during an operation.
P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed in Calabar by the Cross River State Police Command. The Command confirmed that two suspects, arrested in connection with the dastardly act, were in Police custody undergoing interrogation.
One of the suspects, a teenager, Mighty Omini, was arrested for alleged involvement in the murder of late Doris.
The suspect made the confession while being paraded alongside his suspected accomplice, Godwin Nyenine, including 28 other suspects arrested for various offences.
It was gathered that Mrs. Doris was allegedly raped in turns and then murdered by a four-man gang on 13th April, 2021, in her home located at the State Housing Estate in Calabar.
While confessing to his crime, Mighty stated that he was paid the sum of N500,000 to drive the car of the deceased to an undisclosed location by the gang leader.
He said that he was not aware that the woman was killed by the robbers after they forcefully slept with her and that was why he honoured their invitation but denied his involvement in the killing. He said he felt very bad after discovering that they had killed her.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, stated that the suspect, Mighty and his gang stole some valuable items from the woman’s house after killing her and will therefore, face the wrath of the law.
The suspects may likely be charged before the Court for murder, which attracts life imprisonment if they are found guilty.
