A man, Kingsley Chime, had a nasty experience in Lagos State after his wife was delivered of a baby, he organized the naming ceremony and invited friends and neighbours to celebrate with the family.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that while the ceremony was starting, some robbers invaded the place and threatened to kill tthe guests if they challenged them. They eventually carted away the food and drinks, which were brought for the ceremony and escaped.
The incident happened at about 4pm at Zenith Estate, Isheri Oshun area of Lagos, where the complainant resides with his family.
Apart from carting away the items, the robbers damaged the tables and chairs including window glasses worth over N265,000 before they escaped.
This caused confusion, which abruptly ended the event as guests took to their heels and managed to escape unhurt leaving the ceremony inconclusive.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division and the operatives moved into action. They arrested one of the suspects, a 20-year old Gideon Alasonye and detained him at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed and told the Police that they gave out the food and gulped the drinks as such they cannot be returned to the owner.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy and stealing.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Ms. K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 12th January, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
