Members of True Fondation Will of God Church in Ijegun, Lagos State, were shocked after they discovered that robbers have vandalized the church and carted away property worth N5m and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 8th September, 2023, at Bank Bus Stop in Ijegun, where the church is located.
Police operatives from the Isheri Oshun Division have arrested one of the suspects, Kalid Yawu and charged him for conspiracy and stealing.
The Police alleged that the 22-year old Kalid Yawu conspired with others now at large and broke into the church by digging a whole from church wall from which they gained access into the church and stole the items worth the said amount.
Some of the items stolen included 20 ceiling fans, 10 standing fans, pumping machine, speakers, 100 plastic chairs, 30 school tables, copper cables and others.  They equally destroyed the items, removed the copper wires inside and took away the rest as scraps.
The arrested suspect, Yawu, ran out of luck when he went back to the church to pick the remaining items left behind as he was caught then and handed over to the Police.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed that he came from Kaduna State to Lagos, became a scavenger and that he went there to pick scraps before he was arrested.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
However,  he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor,  Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, and one of them must be a blood relation and the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 25th October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
