NWAMKPA MODESTUS (KSM)
Clearly and unequivocally speaking, Governor Hope Nwa Uzodimma is changing the narrative of governance in Imo for the better. He is redirecting the thought of certain people who hitherto saw Imo as irredeemably finished. He is obviously repositioning Imo State on a straight lane of economic development. He is stitching gradually but systematically the torn fabrics of Imo State. He is waking up the sleeping giant from slumber. The signal he has been sending from the seat of power in Imo State is such that shows a turning point in the affairs of the state.
Before this Omuma born well groomed politician and Administrator mounted the saddle of governance in Imo State on January 15 last year, there was an air of decadence blowing across the state. There was this feeling of hopelessness that had permeated in the minds of the youths that they were only good with occasional droppings of peanuts from politicians and that their usefulness were only needed during elections. There was a total collapse of infrastructure in the state. There was this excessive but unbridled corruption and arbitrariness in the running of governance in the state. Imo state future was looking down weary, desolate, bleak and totally hopeless. Imo State was looking like a torn fabrics (Nkirika Akwa).
This was the confused state of Imo prior to January 15, 2021. Like a professional tailor, Governor Uzodimma went to work and started, painstakingly stitching our torn cloths. He is taking the empowerment and development of the youths more seriously than any regime in the state had contemplated doing. He is taking the eyes of the youths off from the petty mentality of genuflecting before politicians and hoping to get the crumps to a level where they can be financially stable and useful in life. Who can beat that!
As we talk, the Governor has dispatched 40 youths of Imo State to undergo training at NNPC. This life enhancing training is such that will teach them how to fish in their lives and not depending on occasional peanuts. This is coming few months after a whooping 15,000 youths receive cash empowerments after many of them were training in different skills aimed at stabilizing them financially and economically. This is a way a true leader thinks.
Though, Governor Uzodimma may not be a noisy type. He may not believe in paying heavily on Channels, NTA or taking over the front pages of Newspapers to advertise his superlative achievements but the truth remains that he is achieving greatly both tangibly and intangibly. For instance, the amount of money he spent in building the innovative Balloon Technology drainage system that effectively arrested the perennial flooding around the MCC axis is enough to build 100 worthless buildings and line them up along the major roads in Imo State and be making noise about them.
Again, the amount of money he has invested in the empowerment of the youths is more than enough to build useless Squares across the state and be making empty noise as we saw here in the past. This is what we call intangible achievements. They cannot be easily quantified but their impacts on the people are unimaginable. This is also in addition to tangible ones scattered everywhere in Imo State.
In all honesty, what Governor Uzodimma needs is the support of everybody. Imolites must rise up above seeing governance and achievements from brick and mortar to a more life changing and people oriented one. That is the angle Governor Uzodimma has taken Imo governance to and we must continue to draw this fact closer to the ears of all those concerned.
