How Woman, 37, Stole Neighbour’s One-year Old Baby & Sold To Childless Couple

Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have uncovered how a 37-year old woman, Sunday Glory, allegedly stole her neighbour’s one-year old baby and sold to a childless couple through an agent before they were caught. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that reports the suspects, Sunday Glory, 37, Peter Udoh, 63, Loretta Nelson, 55, Mercy Uwam, 44 and her husband, James Uwam, 59, were arrested after the Police got intelligence of their activity at New Oko-Oba area Abule Egba, Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the prime suspect, Sunday Glory, allegedly stole the baby, Isaiah Shoretire, from the mother and sold him to the agents, Udoh and Nelson, for an undisclosed amount of money while the agents in turn sold the baby to the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Uwam.

 

However, while the transaction was ongoing, the mother of the baby reported to the Police at Oko-Oba Division, who moved into action. The Police first arrested Glory and she mentioned the agent, who in turn mentioned the couple that bought the baby.

 

They were all arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct. They were found culpable for the criminal offence of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen baby under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

They were charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

Part of the charges read:

That you,  Sunday Glory,  Peter Udoh,  Loretta Nelson, Mercy Uwam and James Uwam, on the 11 day of July, 2024, at about 1700hrs at No. 2. Oredada street off Pupssola Street, New Oko-Oba, Abule Egba, Lagos, at about 1700 hours at Ikeja Magisterial District, conspired together to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence  punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

“That you, Sunday Glory on the same date, time and place did conduct yourself in a manner to cause breach of public peace by collecting a baby, Isaiah Shore tire, from the mother and eluding with the baby to an unknown destination and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigerja 2015.”

 

COUNT III: That you, Sunday Glory on the same date, time and place in he forementioned Magisterial District, did steal a baby Isaiah Shoretire one-year old and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

“That you, Peter Udoh, Lorretta Nelson,  Mercy Uwam and James Uwam, on the 12th day of July, 2024, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did receive a boy Isaiah Shoretire, one-year old from  Sunday Glory knowing fully, that he was stolen from his biological parents and thereby committed an offence contrary and purnishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

They pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 9th September, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
