A 60-year old woman, Animashaun Funmilayo and her accomplice, Adams Aliu, 37, have been arrested for allegedly posing as mother and lawyer of a dead man respectively in order to claim his policy worth millions of Naira in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the AIICO Insurance office located at Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja area of Lagos State, where the late Kehinde Ayomide Onilude had the policy before he died.
The suspects, Funmilayo and Aliu, who were said to be aware of the policy before his demise, perfected plans and reportedly conspired with an insider at the insurance company to claim it.
However, they ran out of luck after they went to the Insurance company, presented themselves as the rightful persons that will claim the deceased policy and presented the relevant fake documents to that effect.
The management suspected their actions and contacted the Police intelligence at the Man Center Division, who arrested and detained them at the station for interrogation over their claims.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable as they had no relationship with the deceased as the mother and lawyer, which they claimed to be.
They were subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conspiracy and attempted stealing.
They pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Kenrich Nomayo, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fajana, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
They were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned for mention.
