A young man, Ahmed Toheed, has been arrested and charged for allegedly killing his 64-year old grandmother, Mulikat Sanni and raping her corpse over suspicion of being a witch in Ondo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 29th September, 2025, at about 10pm, at Onisere Street, Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The suspect, Toheed, was arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court sitting in Oke-Eda and was remanded in custody for the alleged rape and murder under the Criminal Law of the State.
According to the Police, the defendant committed the dastardly act after he accused her of witchcraft and being behind his string of bad luck. He went to her at night, subdued, raped and eventually killed.
The matter was reported to the Police. He was arrested and charged before the Court for the alleged offence, which attracts life imprisonment.
The Prosecutor, Augustine Omhenimhen, told the court that the defendant allegedly overpowered the elderly woman, strangled her, and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The charges read:
“That you, Ahmed Toheed ‘m’, on 29th September, 2025, at about 10pm, at Onisere Street, Ore, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully strangle one Mulikat Sanni ‘f’ aged 64 years to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and Punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”
“That you, Ahmed Toheed ‘m’, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of one Mulikat Sanni ‘f’ aged 64 years and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 357 and Punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”
However, the Court did not take his plea as the prosecutor, Omhenimhen, asked the court to remand the defendant in custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Defence counsel, Benjamin Adeyanju, prayed the court for an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit.
The Presiding Magistrate, Odenusi-Fadeyi, ordered the remand of the defendant at the State CID and adjourned the matter till 13th October, 2025, for further hearing for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
