The Police in Lagos have arrested a 58-year old woman, Mrs. Bena Odinaka, whose hungry dog reportedly pounced on a 7-year old girl, bit and ate her flesh.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at 15 Jakande Estate in Abesan area of Ipaja, Lagos, where they reside.
It was gathered that the victim, Miss Adegun Alia, suffered her fate when she was returning to her house and met the dog, which was unchained by the owner, Mrs. Odinaka. The dog was said to be visibly angry probably because it was hungry.
It was learnt that when the dog sighted the victim, Alia, it attacked, pounced on her left thigh and drew her flesh before she was eventually rescued by their neighbours. The manner in which the dog acted suggested that it had not eaten anything on that day and decided to feed on the victim’s flesh.
The victim was rushed to the hospital and the matter was reported to the Police at Ipaja Division, who then arrested Mrs. Odinaka.
After investigation, the Police found Mrs. Odinaka culpable for negligence. She was later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for allowing her dog to bite the victim, Miss Adegun Alia, and inflicting serious injury on her.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, asked the Court to give a date for trial to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 29th July, 2019, for mention.
