The police have arrested a man, Idris Adebayo and his wife, Nneoma for running a baby factory where impregnated young women were kept until they delivered and the babies will be sold to buyers in Lagos.
The suspects were paraded along with other criminal suspects arrested for various crimes from different areas by the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal.
The suspects were arrested at their premises located at Ikotun Road in Igando area of Lagos where they lived and used as the factory.
Three victims namely, Favour, Precious and Onome were rescued, and they confessed that it was the wife, Nneoma that engaged them, was in charge of the business and negotiated with the buyers without the consent of the victims.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Nneoma had nine children and had sold some before she started engaging young impregnated women for the business.
While parading the suspects, the Lagos police boss said that the police through surveillance obtained information and stormed the place where the victims were rescued and the suspects arrested.
Edgal said both the victims and the suspects have confessed and will be charged to court after the conclusion. of investigation..
Adebayo however denied that he was involved in child trafficking saying that he never knew that his wife was into such kind of business. He explained that he saw them as her workers but could not explain why it was only pregnant women that always worked with her.
Nneoma who was from Abia State before he married Adebayo admitted that she kept those pregnant woman to deliver in their home but could not say what she usually did with the victims new born babies.
Meanwhile among the suspects paraded were suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, rapists and others who the CP said will be prosecuted soon. Some exhibits such as drugs, guns, and live ammunitions were recovered and displayed as exhibits at the Police Command in Ikeja, Lagos.
