The Distinguished lawmaker representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Idiat Adebule, has counseled her constituents to use the available health facilities spread across Lagos State while highlighting that hypertension can be prevented and properly managed.
Every 17th of May is dedicated to educate people and raise the level of awareness of hypertension.
Adebule tried to educate her constituents that high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a systolic blood pressure consistently above 140 mm Hg and/or diastolic blood pressure consistently above 90 mm Hg.
And established risk factors include unhealthy diet (high salt and low fruit and vegetable intake), physical inactivity, tobacco and alcohol use, and obesity.
She further said, “Hypertension is a silent killer. Untreated hypertension can lead to serious medical complications such as stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney damage, and other debilitating health issues. Fortunately, hypertension can be prevented and managed, by checking your blood pressure regularly, and through treatment”.
“I hereby appeal and encourage my constituents to use the available health facilities spread across Lagos State.”
