A 28-year old man, Mubarak Kajola Noah, who was arrested at the Cemetery in Lagos, has told the Police that he went to the cemetery to pick some dead bodies, which he wanted to use to perform certain rituals before he was caught.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 11th August, 2023, at Ayobo Cemetery in Lagos, where Noah went to pick up the dead before he was caught by the security guard on duty.
He was subsequently handed over to the Police at Ayobo Division for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, Noah reportedly  admitted before the Police that he did so because he needed them for ritual purposes.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for interfering with dead bodies by breaking the iron and slap to the grave.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Matthew Ikhaluode, told the Court that the defendant allegedly sneaked into the cemetery early in the morning, broke the iron rod and slap used in covering the dead bodies thereby destroying property worth N1.1m belonging to the Ayobo Ipaja LCDA.
He further stated that before he could carry the dead bodies, security men arrested him and handed him over to the Police, where he was interrogated and found culpable over his conduct.
He pleaded guilty and told the Court that he did so because he needed the dead bodies to perform certain rituals before he was arrested.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ikhaluode, then asked the Court to give a date since he pleaded guilty to enable him present the facts of the matter so that the Court will sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit similar crime in the future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Fajana Oyenike, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos and adjourned the matter for facts and sentence.
