A 24-year old man, Usman Bala, who was arrested by the Police in Lagos State for allegedly engaging a 10-year old girl in sex romp has confessed to the Police that he only did so 10 times before he was caught in the act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Elephant Way in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, where they reside.
The Police alleged that the suspect, Bala, had lured the girl to an apartment several times between February and November, 2022 and had sex with her but warned her not to tell anyone including her parents.
However, the act got exposed after the parents suspected the girl over her behaviour and interrogated her. She then revealed that she had been sleeping with Bala.
The matter was reported to the Police at Alausa Division. The suspect was arrested and detained for interrogation over his conduct .
While being interrogated, he admitted to have done so but with her consent.
The Police found him culpable for rape because the victim is still a minor and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
But the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the victim is still a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 17th January, 2023, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
