A 23-year-old man, Dominic David, who was arrested over sexual molestation of a 5-year old girl, has told the Police that he did not rape her but only inserted his finger into her private part.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 24th January, 2023, at Basic Road, Odode Street, Idanre community in Akure, Ondo State.
The suspect, David, has been arrested and charged before the Akure Magistrates Court.
The Police alleged that the defendant lured the little girl into his apartment with biscuits and molested her. The victim later told her mother how David removed her pants and inserted his finger inside her private part.
The matter was reported to the Police; David was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his conduct. In the course of interrogation, he was said to have admitted to have only inserted his finger and allowed her to go.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently arraigned him before the Court on a one-count of indecent sexual assault, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is found guilty eventually.
The prosecutor, Matins Olowofeso, told the Court that it was not the first time the defendant was committing such crime and informed the Court that he was arrested last year for the same offence.
“Last year, David did same thing to the victim’s elder sister, who 10 years old then. He signed an undertaking not to do such again upon his release,” Olowofeso said.
The prosecutor, Olowofeso, said the offence contravened Section 4 (1) and (2) of the Criminal law of Ondo State 2021. So the Court did not take his plea.
The Presiding Magistrate, Folashade Aduroja, ordered the remand of the defendant in Police custody and adjourned the matter till 9th February, 2023, for mentioning.
