As the 2027 general elections approach, Hon. Anthony Ikenna Okafor, Labour Party candidate for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, says he represents a break from the old order of politics.
To his supporters, he is not just another politician. He is a self-made businessman, a grassroots mobilizer, and a voice for a new kind of leadership.
At 54, Hon. Okafor brings decades of experience from the private sector into the political arena. He describes himself as independent, forward-looking, and accountable only to the people.
“I am not running to serve a political godfather. I am running to serve the people,” Okafor said during recent engagements with constituents.”
“For too long, representation has been about personal interests. Our constituency deserves representation that answers to the people — representation focused on jobs, infrastructure, education, economic opportunity, and real development.”
A native of Nnewi, Okafor built his business from the ground up. He says that experience gives him a deep understanding of the struggles of traders, artisans, young graduates, and small business owners across the three local government areas.
“My mandate is simple: attract real development, create opportunities for our youths, support our markets and industries, and give Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo a strong, independent voice at the National Assembly,” he stated.
Campaign materials and town hall meetings have centered on five key pillars: Job creation, road and power infrastructure, quality education, healthcare access, and economic empowerment.
Okafor insists that his campaign is people-driven and funded, free from external control.
“Anthony Ikenna Okafor: Leadership without strings attached. Service without masters. A future built for the people,” his campaign slogan reads.
With growing support across Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo, the Labour Party candidate is positioning himself as the alternative for voters seeking performance over politics.
“Vote Leadership with Purpose.
Vote Labour Party (LP).
Vote Anthony Ikenna Okafor — The People’s Choice.”
As 2027 draws near, Hon. Okafor says the choice before the constituency is clear: continue with business as usual, or elect a new generation of leadership focused on service, not self.
