Igando Bloody Clash: Police Arrested 12, Recovered 2 AK47, 13 Cutlasses, Charms

The police have intensified efforts to restore peace in Igando, suburb of Lagos, Nigeria following a bloody clash between the members of National Union of Road Transporter Workers NURTW and Motorcycles operators affiliated to Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN on Monday over sale of tickets.
So far, 12 suspects have been arrested and two AK47 guns, 13 cutlasses and charms used during the battle that lasted for several hours.
Several people suffered serious wound and injury and they have been transferred to and under intensive care unit at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba.

Those arrested include Isa Sulaimon, Taiwo Adebayo, Kabiru Balogun, Ibrahim Olagoke, Abdulkareem Yusuf and Akindele Salau.
The police source declined to name the identity of the set of the suspects who the police recovered those arms for security reason.
Police source at the Area M Command, Idimu, said the suspects have to explain more where they brought the arms from and will be transferred to SCID Panti or SARS for further investigation.
“This is no more union matter because arms are now involved and will be investigated,” the source said.
Several operators who were victims of machete cuts and gun shot were initially rushed to Igando General Hospital, for treatment.
The suspects and others at large allegedly invaded some parks in Igando, Akesan, Egan areas and attacked the riders for not buying their tickets and caused mayhem in the area.
P.M.EXPRESS also gathered that was not the first time they riders have been attack which have lasted for three months since it started.
The fight which started at about 8.00 am lasted for several hours before the police team led by Area M Commander, ACP Augustine Akika brought the situation under control.
Before then, both workers and passersby have already sustained injury.
The police had to used their vehicles to take the victims to the hospital because of their critical condition.
P.M EXPRESS gathered the cause of the fight was over the control ticket sales at the various parks in Igando area.
