Mission Augustine, a 400 level student of Igbinedion University, has emerged winner of the third edition of Panenka Spot Kick Challenge and won the N100,ooo cash prize.

Igbinedion University, Okada, Nigeria’s premier private University, played host to the exciting spot kick challenge.

The event left a reverberating effect on the minds of the crowd with its perfect mix of flair, panache and style intertwined with a vibrant University community who would have fond memories of the Panenka slogan “Oya score nau”.

The third edition was held to promote an Igbinedion University Alumni themed event tagged “From Trips to Drips” which is, in a nutshell, a “Say No to Drugs Campaign” organised to sensitise today’s Nigerian youth, especially the Okada community, on the ills of drug use, abuse and addiction.

The seminar also witnessed attendance from various stakeholders, most notably the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye and the guest speaker of the seminar, the State Coordinator, Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, N.D.L.E.A. Buba Wakawa (CN).

Staged at the University’s Crown Estate Football Field Okada, the game was both as colourful as it was exciting.

The Challenge was a pulsating roller coaster keenly contested by a total number of 16 players made up of both staff of the University and students.

After a grueling 13 rounds of penalty kicks, it boiled down to two finalists – Mission Augustine, a 400 level student of the department of Geography and Regional Planning and Olugbenga Jegede, the University’s Admission’s Officer. Augustine defeated Jegede to emerge winner of the third edition.

Speaking on his victory after receiving a cheque of N100,000 presented by Mr. Kennedy Osagie, Chief Operating Officer of Odumalife Business Hub, a visibly elated Augustine reveled in his good fortune while revealing the mental battle and pressure he had to face in overcoming two missed penalty kicks to become the last man standing and claim the star Prize.

The team coordinator for Team Panenka, Osahon Aimiuwu Esq. remarked, “Panenka is here to stay. We simply are promoting the use of sports as both a medium of entertainment and as a vehicle to disseminate pressing societal issues such as the banes of drug use in today’s society.”
