Igbo Community In Lagos Endorses APC

Igbo Community in Lagos has reconfirmed their endorsement of the governorship candidate of All Progressives Party, APC, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and also rejected the purported endorsement of the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, by the Igbo apex group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

This was the outcome of series of meetings held by the Igbo leaders and residents in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the endorsement was unanimous as the residents believed that supporting the APC candidates across the state will be in the best interest of Ndigbo residents in Lagos.
To crown the Igbos’ commitment in Lagos State, the leaders conferred a chieftaincy title on Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Ugochimereze Ndigbo. This was confirmed by the traditional ruler and chairman of Council of Igbo leaders in Lagos State, Eze Christian Uchechukwu Nwachukwu.

Eze Nwachukwu explained that the Igbo residents in Lagos held series of meetings and arrived at the decision to support all APC candidates from the ward level to the national level. He believed that every Igbo person living in Lagos will abide by the decision because the leaders duly consulted before the decision was taken.

The decision was taken on the heels of the purported decision by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Nnia Nwodo for the Igbo people to support the presidential candidate of PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, which has become a subject of controversy in the whole South East region.
Meanwhile since Nwodo directed the Igbo people to vote for Atiku in the coming election, it has attracted open confrontations and rejection by Ndigbo.
The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, described the decision as idiotic because it was taken on the day the President was honouring the great Nnamdi Azikiwe in Onitsha.
Some prominent Igbo leaders have equally reacted against such decision describing it as untimely and not in the interest of Ndigbo. Some said that the decision was not deliberated upon by the leaders and as such was not binding on the people. It was such unpopular decision by Ohanaeze that might have informed the outright rejection as many groups have dissociated themselves from such directives.
