The President of Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, Chief Sunday Udeh, has called on the APC to accommodate Ndigbo in governance as he asks Ndigbo to support the ruling party in the Local Government election coming up on 12th July, 2025.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Udeh stated this on Saturday during the unveiling of the multimillion Naira befitting secretariat built by the members of Igbo Buru Otu Association of Nigeria led by Eze Chika Nwokedi in Lagos State.

Chief Udeh, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, noted that there was need for Ndigbo to work in synergy with the ruling APC in Lagos State. He however, also said that the leadership of the party should acknowledge the support by giving appointments to Ndigbo in the Local Government areas to build strong support in the local areas.

Udeh explained that it was neccessary for the ruling party to do so as to avoid what happened in 2023, where Ndigbo were accused of not supporting the ruling party, which Udeh faulted and insisted that Ndigbo voted for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the presidential election.

He further explained that Ndigbo quite understand that they cannot be an opposition to the ruling party where they reside and believe in the popular Igbo adage, which translates to ‘where one lives, he protects’.

Udeh explained that what usually happens is that the ruling party does not carry Ndigbo along but only contact them few days to the election and at the end, they will blame Ndigbo for not voting for the ruling Party in the State.

He urged the ruling party to start accommodating Ndigbo at the grassroots through this Local Government election by giving them some positions like supervisors, personal assistants. And by doing so, they will know that they have a stake in the ruling party and continue to retain their support.

He also stated that the population of Ndigbo in Lagos State, which put to about 45 per cent, was enough for the ruling party not to neglect Ndigbo. He urged the ruling party to close the gap and accommodate Ndigbo the more in the State for greater working relationship in the future.

On the unveiling of Ndigbo Buru Otu secretariat, Udeh commended the association and the leadership for achieving the feat of having a benefiting secretariat in Lagos State.

He noted that the issue of a secretariat has posed a serious challenge to Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State and other Igbo groups like Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, who are still renting apartments or hotels for their meetings.

He recalled that he made several efforts over the years to build a secretariat for the Igbo Speaking Community but it did not work. Chief Udeh gave assurance that he will build a secretariat for the Igbo Speaking Community before he leaves office.
