The newly inaugurated President General of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, Chief Chukwudi Gift Chinye, has indicted members of the Board of Trustees, BOT, led by Dr. Jonathan Nnaji over the alleged mishandling of petitions against the former President, Chief Sunday Udeh.

Chief Chinye, who hails from Delta State, made this known during the General Assembly meeting of the community held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Igbo Speaking Community National Secretariat in Surulere, Lagos.

According to him, stakeholders had written two separate letters to the BOT drawing attention to what they described as the “excesses and alleged gross misconduct” of Chief Udeh’s administration.

He stated that despite the petitions, the BOT did not take decisive steps to address the concerns, a development he said created tension and divisions within the community.

“As stakeholders, we did what the constitution asked us to do. We wrote two letters to the BOT to intervene on the issues raised against the former executive led by Chief Udeh. Unfortunately, nothing concrete was done until the General Assembly had to step in and pass a vote of no confidence,” Chief Chinye said.

Following the vote, the General Assembly removed Chief Sunday Udeh and some members of his executive, paving the way for the inauguration of a new 17-member harmonized executive council with Chief Chinye as President General.

Chief Chinye explained that one of the priorities of his administration will be to overhaul the BOT to make it more effective and representative.

He said the current structure of the BOT will be expanded to accommodate more stakeholders for better management, transparency, and progress of the community across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State.

“The BOT is a critical organ of our community. But for it to function well, it must be inclusive and proactive. We will work to expand the BOT and ensure it lives up to its responsibility of providing guidance and resolving issues before they escalate,” he added.

The new PG assured members that his leadership will not engage in witch-hunting of any individual or group. He said the focus will be on reconciliation, constitutional order, and development.

“We are not here to fight anybody. We are here to unite Ndigbo in Lagos. We will work closely with the Council of Ndieze, stakeholders, and all interest groups to ensure the community moves forward,” Chief Chinye stated.

Community leaders who attended the meeting commended the peaceful transition and expressed optimism that the new executive will restore unity and attract development projects for Igbo speaking people in Lagos.

The new executive has pledged to prioritize youth engagement, women empowerment, and partnership with the Lagos State Government within its first 100 days in office.
