Igbo Speaking Community PG, Chief Chinye Steals Show At Ohanaeze General Assembly Meeting In Amuwo Odofin

It was a moment of honour and celebration at the 4th Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly meeting held in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State, as the President General of the Igbo Speaking Community, Chief Chukwudi Chinye, made a grand entrance with members of his newly inaugurated executive council and delegates from various Local Government Areas across the State.

The arrival of Chief Chinye momentarily disrupted proceedings as a loud ovation erupted from the large crowd of attendees. The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State chapter, Chief Leonard Okafor, popularly known as Oba Ojoto, immediately suspended the meeting to specially welcome Chief Chinye and his entourage, describing his presence as a powerful symbol of unity and strength for Ndigbo in Lagos.

In a show of deep respect for Igbo tradition and culture, Chief Okafor offered Chief Chinye the traditional kolanut in recognition of his esteemed position as the President General of the Igbo Speaking Community. The symbolic gesture, deeply rooted in Igbo custom, drew thunderous applause from dignitaries, traditional rulers, and members present, underscoring the cordial and respectful relationship between Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Igbo Speaking Community.

Among the prominent personalities who warmly welcomed the Igbo Speaking Community leader were the former President of Ohanaeze, Chief John Uche, the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Onyendu Uche Dimgba, the Ezendigbo of Lagos State, Dim Christian Uchechukwu Nwachukwu, traditional rulers from various LGAs, market leaders, women groups, and youths who were visibly excited to receive Chief Chinye at the meeting.

Speaking briefly, Chief Oba Ojoto praised the Igbo Speaking Community and Chief Chinye for his exemplary leadership, humility, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Igbo people in Lagos State. He noted that the Igbo Speaking Community has become a formidable and united voice, promoting peace, cultural values, and economic empowerment among members.

Chief Okafor further emphasized the need for continued collaboration between Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other Igbo socio-cultural organisations in the State, stressing that unity remains the greatest strength of Ndigbo anywhere in the world.

In his response, Chief Chukwudi Chinye expressed profound gratitude to the Ohanaeze leadership for the warm and historic reception accorded to him and his delegation. He reaffirmed his commitment to work closely with Ohanaeze Ndigbo to advance the collective interest of Ndigbo in Lagos State and beyond.

Chief Chinye stressed the importance of unity, noting that meaningful progress can only be achieved when all Igbo groups speak with one voice and pursue common goals. He assured the gathering that the Igbo Speaking Community under his leadership would continue to champion the welfare, security, and economic advancement of its members.

Members of the Igbo Speaking Community who accompanied the PG to the event expressed pride in his leadership, describing him as a bridge-builder, a listener, and a visionary whose tenure has brought renewed energy, inclusiveness, and credibility to the organisation.

According to some of the delegates, Chief Chinye’s leadership style has fostered greater participation of youths and women in the activities of the community, a development they said has strengthened grassroots mobilisation across the LGAs.

The 4th General Assembly meeting, which drew participants from across Lagos State, later continued with robust deliberations on issues affecting the welfare of Ndigbo, including community development, youth empowerment, security, and the preservation of Igbo language and culture in an increasingly modern society.
