Igbo Speaking Community Stakeholders Commend New Executives For Stopping Chief Udeh Over Coronation Of Chieftaincy Title In Lagos

The new leadership of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, led by the President General, Chief Chukwudi Gift Chinye, has been highly commended by stakeholders for foiling alleged attempts by Chief Sunday Udeh to organize unauthorized coronation of chieftaincy titles in Lagos State.

The first attempt, which was allegedly planned to hold inside the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, AFRSC, Oshodi, Lagos State, on 20th September, 2026, was stopped by the military authorities after receiving a petition from the legitimate Executives of the Igbo Speaking Community.

The urgent petition dated 18th September, 2026, was addressed to the Commandant, Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, Lagos, by the President-General, Executive Council and General Assembly of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos.

The petition was signed by the new President-General, Chief Chukwudi Gift Chinye, and the Secretary General, Chief Kalu Joshua Nnanna, on behalf of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, with RC: 11534.

According to the petition, the planned event was reportedly to involve the installation of about 46 traditional titles, including those connected to the disputed Obi of Lagos and Eze Ndigbo of Lagos titles, and was not authorized by the legitimate leadership of the community.

Sources said that upon receipt of the petition, the military authorities acted professionally and stopped the event from holding inside the barracks to avoid breach of peace and misuse of military facility.

Stakeholders praised the President General and his Executives for their timely intervention and for writing to the Commandant to protect the image of the Igbo community.

However, after the event was stopped inside the barracks, Chief Sunday Udeh allegedly relocated to another venue to continue the coronation.

Investigations revealed that the new venue where he moved to was a hall inside DTI – NITEL by Cappa Bus Stop, Oshodi, Lagos State.

It was gathered that stakeholders and members of the Igbo Speaking Community, who got information about the new venue, quickly alerted security agencies and the management of the facility.

The coronation attempt at the hall inside DTI – NITEL by Cappa Bus Stop, Oshodi, was also reportedly stopped, as the organizers could not provide authorization from the legitimate Igbo Speaking Community leadership.

Following the double foiled attempts at the AFRSC barracks and at the hall inside DTI – NITEL by Cappa Bus Stop, sources said Chief Sunday Udeh went into hiding.

A stakeholder said, “We commend our new President General, Chief Chukwudi Gift Chinye, the Secretary General, Chief Kalu Joshua Nnanna, and the entire Executive Council. They have shown that Igbo chieftaincy title is not for sale. They foiled the plan at the barracks and also foiled it at NITEL by Cappa.”

Another stakeholder added, “The military at AFRSC and the management at NITEL did well. Nobody should allow his facility to be used for unauthorized chieftaincy title installation.”

The President General had earlier announced the suspension of the Great Achievers Awards earlier scheduled to hold on Sunday, 20th September, 2026, under the title of Nnoka Ndigbo, which was to be used for conferment of chieftaincy titles.

He stated that the event scheduled for 12 noon at the Army Cantonment, Charity Bus Stop, Oshodi, Lagos, had been put on hold till further notice for proper screening and verification.

Stakeholders said the action has restored confidence, transparency and discipline in the Igbo Speaking Community.

They said the Igbo Speaking Community with RC 11534 is a respected socio-cultural organization and chieftaincy titles must follow due process and constitution of the community.

Members of the public and members of the Igbo Speaking Community have been advised to disregard any invitation for chieftaincy coronation from Chief Sunday Udeh and wait for official announcement from the legitimate Executives led by Chief Chukwudi Gift Chinye.
