In a landmark move to restore unity and stability within the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Jonathan Nnaji, has successfully mediated a peace accord between the President-General, Chief Sunday Udeh, and the Media Director of the BOT, Chief Cyriacus Izuekwe.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the BOT Chairman, Dr Nnaji, convened an intensive closed-door reconciliation meeting at his office on Monday.
The meeting was called to resolve weeks of public disagreement between the two senior leaders that had threatened the cohesion of the community.
The reconciliation session, which lasted over two hours, provided both parties with a platform for frank dialogue, mutual respect, and open expression of grievances. Sources at the meeting said emotions ran high initially but were calmed by Dr. Nnaji’s fatherly intervention and emphasis on Igbo cultural values.
Addressing both leaders, Dr. Nnaji stressed that they share a common heritage and ancestral bond that transcends personal differences or official positions.
“We are one people with one blood and one destiny in Lagos,” he stated. “No misunderstanding should be allowed to tear apart the fabric of Ndigbo in this state.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, both Chief Sunday Udeh and Chief Cyriacus Izuekwe, who is the senior journalist with P.M.EXPRESS, agreed to resolve their differences and embraced each other before the BOT and pledged to work together henceforth in the interest of the community.
Both leaders commended Dr. Nnaji for his timely intervention, describing him as a true custodian of Igbo tradition and a bridge-builder, whose commitment to peace is unmatched. They also thanked other BOT members for ensuring that the matter was resolved internally without external interference.
In fulfillment of a key resolution reached at the meeting, Chief Sunday Udeh proceeded to Area D Coommand in Mushin, where the earlier dispute had been formally reported. He confirmed to Dr. Nnaji that he had officially withdrawn the case as agreed during the reconciliation.
Chief Izuekwe later verified to the BOT Chairman that the President-General had honoured his pledge at the Police station without delay.
Dr. Nnaji expressed gratitude to both parties for choosing reconciliation over discord. He reiterated the Board’s unwavering commitment to preserving unity, discipline, and stability within the Igbo Speaking Community across Lagos State.
With this development, peace has now been fully restored between the two leaders. Both Chief Udeh and Chief Izuekwe have agreed to set aside their differences and collaborate in promoting the welfare, cultural identity, and collective interest of Ndigbo in Lagos State.
