The National Coordinator, Response to Drugs and Related Organised Crime in Nigeria Sensitisation Training for Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Wilson Ighodalo, days ago paid courtesy visit to the new management of the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Ighodalo, during the days, visited the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbeyokun, PhD, NPM and the newly promoted Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Frank Emeka Mba, mni, at Force Headquarters, FCT, Abuja, on Monday 3rd
July, 2023 and Thursday 6th July, 2023, respectively.
He used the opportunity to brief the Acting Inspector General of Police on Police training programmes for Police personnel in capacity building, which were organised by his organisation, The Drug Salvation Foundation.
The Acting Inspector General of Police expressed his commitment to work closely with experienced trainers, subject matter experts, and community stakeholders to develop this comprehensive training programme. He firmly believes that this training initiative will foster a stronger bond between law enforcement and the communities while empowering Police officers to build trust, understand diverse perspectives, and proactively address issues that affect public safety and well-being.
Mr. Ighodalo noted that lending support to the NGO by the Police boss will go a long way in motivating them to give their best to the society in the fight against drug abuse.
He presented to the Acting Inspector-General of Police; Ag IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbeyokun, PhD, NPM, the First Phase Pilot Reports on Drug Prevention, Treatment and Care (DPTC) Sensitisation Training for Nigeria Police Force for mindset engineering of the Nigeria Police Force on effective response to drugs and related organised crime prevention.
The immediate past IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, had supported drug control in Nigeria by approving training for Police personnel on “Response to Drugs and Related Organised Crime in Nigeria Sensitisation Training for the Nigeria Police Force” Drug Prevention,Treatment and Care (DPTC) Sensitisation Training for the Nigeria Police Force. Another interesting aspect of the training is the addition of combating cultism and using sports, especially sports to engage youths and steer them away from criminal activities.
The Drug Salvation Foundation is building the capacity of Police on decriminalization and respect for the human rights of drug users, the search for more effective responses by law enforcement authorities and the community generally must be stepped up.
“Police also need to adopt harm reduction approaches to reduce the negative consequences of drug use for those who continue to use illicit drugs due to addiction. The IGP is determined to bridge the gap between the Police and the public through professionalism.”
“Nigerians should also expect to see a Police Force that is very disciplined and focused on her traditional responsibility of fighting crime and protecting society. But above all, supporting the Police with laurels can motivate the Force to give its best at all times as promised by the Acting Inspector General of Police” he said.
