There are clear indications that Kelechi Iheanacho may likely start the game against Cameroon today as the medical team of the Super Eagles are working on the fitness of Odion Jude Ighalo and Leon Balogun ahead of the reverse fixture with Cameroon stated for 6pm Nigerian time .
This was disclosed by Gernot Rohr, the technical adviser of the Super Eagles after the team had a feel of the turf of Ahmadu Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde.
However, he was quick to assure that he has other players who are eager to play their part in the success story of the team on the road to the 2018 Russia World Cup.
” We are ready, but we have two little problems with small injuries to Ighalo and Balogun. Both players trained , but I am not sure if they will play against Cameroon because we don’t want to take any risk” Gernot Rohr said.
Speaking further he said ” We will have to examine both players very medically and if they cannot meet the match condition , then we will play Kelechi Iheanacho and Anthony Nwakaeme is another striker that is fresh and may likely play are part in the game”.
Uche Agbo and Chigozie Awaziem are the other players who can function in the central defence of the Super Eagles if Leon Balogun is eventually ruled out from the game.
Lions will be aggressive after tearing them with 4 goals – Rohr
As Nigerians are looking forward to the reverse game between the Super Eagles and Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the den of the lions , Gernot Rohr has given an hint of what to expect from the wounded lions.
According to the Franco- German technical adviser of the Super Eagles, the Lions will come into the game with so much aggression and more physical play to upset the flight of the Eagles in their bid to redeem their image from the 4 unreplied goals bashing they got from the Super Eagles last Friday.
” We are aware that Cameroon will be playing for pride and they will come into the game with so much aggression and will be very physical. We expect a big beginning of Cameroon because they are playing in front of their families and friends” Rohr said.
He added that : ” In our mind is to take a good result out of the game. You know they were battered, they got slaps and were torn apart in Uyo, so it will be normal for them to come out with so much aggression Into the game, but we are glad that we have players who are also physical and can curtail them. It is going to be an exciting game”.
The Super Eagles will not lack supporters as they are many Nigerians that trouped out to cheer them at the stadium before their training, which was a closed door section.
