The Ijebu Professional Excellence Foundation (IPEF) successfully held its 2026 Annual Lecture at the Equity Resort Hotel, Erunwon Road, Ijebu Ode, convening distinguished professionals, thought leaders and community stakeholders for a deep engagement on fostering professional excellence in society.
Themed “Role and Contributions of the Professions and Professionalism in the Larger Society,” the lecture underscored the crucial duties professionals bear in anchoring democratic governance, ethical responsibility and public accountability.
The programme attracted a wide cross-section of leaders committed to elevating standards across sectors.
Mrs Olufunke Adekoya, SAN, as Chairperson of the day, delivered an impactful welcome address, affirming the Foundation’s commitment to advancing excellence.
In her remarks, Mrs Adekoya SAN highlighted the indispensable role of professional ethics in shaping societal values and public life.
She reiterated the Foundation’s belief that excellence in professional conduct extends beyond private achievement to broader social responsibility.
Guest lecturer Professor L. Adele Jinadu, an eminent political scientist and scholar of democracy and development, unpacked the lecture theme with clarity.
His presentation positioned professionalism not merely as occupational identity but as a vocation rooted in accountability, integrity and civic duty.
Professor Jinadu challenged attendees to consider how the professional middle class could serve as custodians of ethical standards and guardians of democratic governance.
The event was further honoured by the presence of Otunba Fatai Olukoga and Professor Bayo Ninalowo, (Governing Council Members of IPEF) whose support amplified the conversation on excellence and professional stewardship in contemporary society.
Delegates engaged in thoughtful dialogue about expanding the mandate of professional bodies to safeguard citizens’ rights, reinforce limits on state power, and strengthen political accountability. The discussions reinforced the shared conviction that professional excellence is foundational to the Nation’s progress and democratic resilience.
