The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Friday hosted the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) Community Engagement and Stakeholders’ Meeting on ILERA EKO and ILERA IBILE schemes at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.
The chairman, who was represented at the engagement by the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Illo, reiterated the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that affordable and quality healthcare remains accessible to residents of Ikeja.
Speaking during the stakeholders’ engagement, the chairman commended the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for its unwavering commitment to universal health coverage through people-oriented initiatives such as ILERA EKO and ILERA IBILE.
Prince Illo noted that health remains a critical pillar of sustainable development and emphasized the importance of grassroots participation in achieving effective healthcare coverage across communities. He called on community leaders, market associations, youth groups, religious bodies, healthcare providers, and residents to become ambassadors of the health insurance schemes within their respective communities.
In a major highlight of the engagement, the Executive Chairman announced that Ikeja Local Government will sponsor 500 indigent residents, including non-pensionable staff of the council, into the Lagos State health insurance scheme as part of efforts to support vulnerable residents and expand healthcare access.
The chairman also disclosed that the council has provided office space for LASHMA within the local government secretariat to ensure continuous registration and seamless access for residents willing to enroll in the scheme.
