OLALEKAN ONI
The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Tuesday visited the scene of a recent fire outbreak in Computer Village, Ikeja, to commiserate with affected business owners and assess the level of damage recorded.
The fire incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, destroyed goods worth several millions of naira and disrupted business activities within the affected building. Preliminary findings traced the cause of the outbreak to a high-voltage electricity surge.
Prompt intervention by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) ensured that the fire was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading to the ground floor of the storey building and adjoining structures.
During the visit, the Council Chairman, Comrade Dauda, expressed deep sympathy to the affected traders and business owners, assuring them of the Local Government’s support. He also emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to safety precautions, particularly in handling electrical installations, in order to prevent future occurrences.
The Executive Chairman commended the swift and coordinated response of LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service, describing their timely intervention as commendable and instrumental in minimizing losses.
Accompanying the Chairman on the visit were the Council Manager, Mrs. Taiwo Odubeko; the Head of Procurement; and the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Chief Adeniyi Adeyi.
In their remarks, business owners within the affected building and surrounding areas appreciated the Chairman for his prompt visit and show of concern. They also used the opportunity to commend his administration for its ongoing developmental efforts across Ikeja Local Government.
