Ikeja Local Government in conjunction with The Street University Project (TSUP), under their Community Intervention Project organised ICT training for youths in and around Ikeja, Lagos.

The programme was initiated as a way of taking young people off the streets through capacity building and making them relevant and independent in the community.

The training which lasted for months was in phases but centered more on computer installation and repairs, and phone repairs. ICT experts and facilitators were engaged in order to ensure quality training and impactation of skills.

Over the years, The Street University Project ( TSUP) has stormed most busy streets in Nigerian cities with the sole aim of taking children of school age, able bodied but unemployed adults, the disabled, beggars, and street urchins off the streets. Through various activities, they have empowered them and given meaning to their lives.

The initiator of the project – Mrs Helen Sosu-Ezirim said they opted to partner with Ikeja Local Government on the empowerment programme having observed the passion of the energetic Sole Administrator – Engr. Abiodun Taiwo towards youth empowerment and engagement.

An elated Engr. Taiwo told the youths to maintain focus and make good use of what they learnt.

He said he is encouraged to do more because many of the participants are already working and earning money from the skills and knowledge gathered during the training period.

He further emphasised that many who had been in the labour market for many years would have become employers of labour if they had dared to acquire some skills after graduation.

Some graduates who took part in the training showed their appreciation for the skills they acquired and encouraged others to maximise opportunities like the one provided by the Sole Administrator and The Street University Project. Other youths who benefitted in a chat with P.M.EXPRESS also thanked the Sole Administrator – Engr. Abiodun Taiwo for giving them the opportunity to be part of the training.

The training was rounded up with the issuance of certificates to the participants by the Sole Administrator, Head of Administration, Mrs. Helen Sosu-Ezirim and the facilitators.
