I’m Still Very Much In The Race – Threeco Denies Stepping Down For Senator Amosun

A major aspirant for the Ogun Central Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Otunba Muraina Olatunji Banjoko, popularly known as Threeco, has denied stepping down for a former governor in the State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.



P.M.EXPRESS reports that, Threeco, as he is fondly called, als denied that he was pushed into the race to add to the numbers of aspirants, who will step down for Senator Amosun when it is time for the primaries. 



He noted that all aspirants were invited to the Ogun Central Senatorial District Stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday 23rd April, 2026, in Abeokuta to decide if a consensus will work .

Reports from the Thursday meeting had it that Senator Amosun had listed Threeco and three others as those who had stepped down for him. 

The politician said, “We were all invited to the Ogun Central Senatorial Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abeokuta to decide on a consensus candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial Ticket”. 



Former governor Amosun, at the meeting claimed that myself and three others had agreed to step down for him. We all denied stepping down for him as claimed. 

He emphasized, “No official position has been taken by the leadership of the party in Ogun Central District now. We are waiting for further communication on the matter.”

The aspirant stressed, “Where did I step down for him? The last time we had any communication was in July, 2025 and we have not had any discussion since then”. 



Otunba Muraina Olatunji Banjoko, who was one of the major political gladiators during the Ibikunle Amosun’s administration in Ogun State, also claimed that the former governor had in the past claimed that the only condition that would make him return to the Senate is, if he is assured of one of the top appointments in the red chamber. 



He however, assured his teeming supporters to disregard any news of his stepping down during the last Ogun Central District Stakeholders’ Meeting.

The aspirant also affirmed the supremacy of the party and promised to abide by the decision of the party in the state in consonance with the directive from the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress 

“This is to douse the tension among my  supporters in all parts of Ogun Central to remain calm .The process is still on. I have not stepped down for anybody.”

“Stepping down is not a decision I can just take without wide consultations with my supporters, who have been part of the process since it started” Threeco stated. 

He stressed further, “Our party, the APC, has guidelines on the method to be adopted for the emergence of a candidate. I promise to abide by the guideline of our party as the party is supreme”.
