CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

When an Islamic cleric, Tajudeen Adigun Adedeji, got married to his wife, Sukurat, 11 years ago he never envisaged that he will be the one washing his wife’s underwears and doing virtually all the house chores in their matrimonial home.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Adedeji seems to have become tired and wants to end the long suffering in her home following the recent decision he took over their marriage in Ogun State.

The cleric, Adedeji, has filed a divorce suit and urged a Customary Court sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, to dissolve his 11-year old marriage to his wife, Sukurat, declaring, “I am fed up.”
Adedeji told the Court that the mother of their three children had a bad attitude, was dirty, lacked any care for the children and was not giving him peace of mind. He also claimed to be solely responsible for the upkeep of the family and “even for the toiletries and panties of my wife”.
Adedeji explained that Sukurat began to misbehave when she got a job at a petrol filling station two years ago and subsequently packed out of their home. He also accused his wife of exploiting him through the poor health state of one of the children, Olasubomi.
“My wife does not take good care of the house. Till today, my mother washes the toilet and bathroom. I am fed up with her, please separate us” he told the court.
Sukurat, not opposing Adedeji’s plea for dissolution, denied all the allegations the petitioner levelled against her. She accused him of jealousy, saying he was always accusing her of adultery.
“I am an NCE holder, but he does not allow me to work. And sadly, he does not take good care of the family. I then decided to take up a job at a filling station. It was then that he started his trouble.”
“He asked me to choose between the job and the marriage. I have decided to go for my job” she said.

The President of the Court, Mrs. A. O. Abimbola, said though the couple had mutually agreed to separate, there was the need to resolve how to take good care of the children. Abimbola, therefore, ordered them to invite their parents to the Court on 28th October, 2019.
