The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID Annex Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service to tackle trans-border crimes and strengthen national security.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that AIG Akpanudom made the call during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command, where he was received by the Comptroller of Immigration Services, CIS Christopher Olu Onajirin. He was accompanied by members of the FCID Annex Lagos leadership team.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mayegun Aminat, the visit was aimed at deepening existing synergy between both agencies.
Key areas discussed included intelligence sharing, border security, trans-border crime prevention, criminal records management, and the administration of criminal justice.
In his remarks, the AIG thanked the Comptroller for the warm reception and noted that the Immigration Service has maintained a cordial working relationship with FCID Annex Lagos through regular engagements and cooperation in the discharge of statutory duties.
AIG Akpanudom stressed that sustained collaboration among security agencies is critical in addressing trans-border crimes, human trafficking, and other emerging security challenges. He said continuous intelligence sharing and professionalism remain vital to achieving a crime-free society.
Responding, CIS Christopher Olu Onajirin described the visit as a privilege and honour. He commended the AIG for his warm disposition and acknowledged the long-standing strategic relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The Comptroller stated that the Nigeria Police Force remains the foundation of the country’s internal security architecture. He praised the Police for their professionalism and commitment to duty, noting their supportive role in the Command’s operations.
CIS Onajirin said the Lagos Command has recorded significant operational successes since he assumed office, particularly in combating human trafficking and dismantling notorious criminal syndicates. He added that the Nigeria Police played major supportive roles in those achievements.
He also highlighted the need for continuous intelligence sharing among security agencies to address offences linked to illegal migration and trans-border criminal activities. The Comptroller further disclosed that the Immigration Service is working to make visa processing more seamless through online platforms, with visas now obtainable within 24 hours in certain categories.
The visit ended with the exchange of plaques and a group photograph, described in the statement as a symbol of mutual respect, cooperation, and strengthened inter-agency partnership.
