MAZI EJIMOFOR OPARA
“When a lion seeks for a perfect alibi to justify his murderous intentions towards a helpless goat, it accuses it of rippling its drinking water”.
The recent dwindling coalition of certain politically disappointed persons under the aegis of “Imo APC Restoration Coalition”, have continued to suffer strategic setbacks after every outing. The first, was the rutherless declaration at Imerienwe. Just yesterday, there was another at Okigwe – a more unfocused assembly of a highly depleted coalition of strange fellows. The venue of the meeting is the only strategic move ascribable to the convener. Of course, he needed to create an impression that the coalition has some semblance of wide and far reaching acceptability across the State. Predictably, the third meeting may hold anywhere around Orlu just to colour the charade with some sense of illusory mileage, one that exists only in the mind of the distraught convener and his negligible ilk of attention seekers.
Members of the coalition, in this recent aluta-like ultimatum, have accentuated the cursory suspicion of Imolites about the altruism of their intentions. They neither showed restrain nor discretion in their open acceptance of culpability to whatever form of perceived injustice they are set to fight. The 21 days ultimatum and the reasons behind it closes their chances of currying the remotest form of goodwill from the ever discerning Imo electorates. Note, that the Convener and his co-travellers have remained integral parts of the Rescue Mission Government at one point or another. The Convener, Chief TOE Ekechi, was in the first four years of this government, a Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council. So were some others whose image appear in the picture below. What cannot be divorced from the key points contained in their communique is their “deliberate complicity” to the making or undoing of this current Imo State.
First, they threatened to inscribe the Governor’s name, image and entire identity in their “well meaning fight” to stop Nwosu’s Governorship ambition. This, ostensibly, reeks of the usual transactionary political gimmick typical of the average Nigerian politician – more like a call for settlement than a fight for what is just. Again, they are unable to hold the Governor down on what is his inalienable right as a active citizen of the State. If the Governor has elected to support Uche Nwosu, has he precluded any of these fellows from furthering whatever ambition they nurse? Thus, this move to “inscribe” the Governor’s “entire identity” in a fight against another legitimate adult member of the State is idiotic, similar to the harrowing cries of a spoilt brat.
Secondly, they have made a criminally laddened probable statement of guilt. Anchoring their request for accountability on “if” – how else do we define political gangsterism? So, this band of restoration apostles may actually be on a journey to restoring their depleted pockets? What this means is simple, Imolites, according to this latter day Saints, will be entitled to an accountable government only IF the Governor flaunts their request? Therefore, in the event that the Governor yields to their request – which actually means giving up his right to making political choices as a citizen of the State – they will abandone their “well meaning fight” and altruistic call for accountability? This syllogism is straight and simple. The Restoration Coalition members, in saner climes, deserve some time with mother Justice.
The most laughable of all, was the threat issued to serving State Legislators. Who, according to them, will be recalled if they do not join in their narcissistic move for political relevance – some butterflies are indeed thinking themselves birds. Every discerning mind would have come to the realization that the Imo APC Restoration Coalition may have come to their political wits end and have resorted to virulent antagonism of a legitimate ambition. There are better ways to up turn the status quo within the ambit of legality than this “high school” theatrics displayed by supposed Statesmen. If you are still searching for persons who have played gruesome roles in the plundering of Imo patrimony, i have the pleasure of announcing to you that I have found them. They are these men who met in Okigwe yesterday, the men who believe that Imolites can only get accountability if their pockets are not “restored”. For me, these men deserve a perfect retirement in the dustbin of Imo State political history.
