The killing of security officers seems to be spreading like wild fire in the Eastern part of Nigeria following the recent killing of the officers in Anambra and Imo States respectively.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that while the onslaught on officers were going on in Anambra State, so far, six Police officers, four armed officers, prison warder and lawyer had been murdered unchecked.
Several Police Stations had also been set ablaze in similar circumstances, which is indicative of plan to collapse the security architecture in the State. The killing by unknown gunmen has now spread to Imo State.
This was disclosed by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikeokwu Orlando, in a statement at the Police Command in Owerri, Imo State.
SP Ikeokwu said that on 20th March, 2021, at about, hoodlums, whose number could not be ascertained, attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters, Isiala Mbano, shooting sporadically.
The PPRO said that the operatives of the Division successfully repelled them. After the encounter it was discovered that the hoodlums destroyed some doors and windows.
However, no arm(s) was taken away. Regrettably, one Inspector, who was on duty at time of the attack, gave up the ghost while receiving treatment as a result of injuries sustained during the melee.
SP Ikeokwu stated that the Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Mohammed, has visited the station to evaluate the extent of damage and decried the level of damage in the Division, which he termed as barbaric.
The Police boss further encouraged officers not to be deterred by the attack, but be charged to brace up the challenge and ensure policing activities continues in the area.
He warned those responsible for all the attacks to desist from it, or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
