HON. AMBY UNEZE KSJI
Despite the myriad of challenges that characterize Nigeria’s political landscape, certain leaders have proven themselves capable of braving these storms.
One of such leaders is His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma, the incumbent Governor of Imo State. From all indications, it is pertinent to put on record why Governor Uzodimma’s exceptional three years and eight months stewardship warrants him a re-election on November 11, 2023.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, since assuming office, has demonstrated unmatched leadership, evident in his dedication to infrastructure development, improved education standards, and social welfare.
One of the most notable strides made under the Uzodimma administration is the enhancement of infrastructure, especially in the area of road development. Studies have shown that robust infrastructure facilitates economic growth and reduces poverty rates. Uzodimma, recognizing this link, has launched massive development projects across the state, such as the construction of quality road networks, thereby fostering investment and job creation.
Furthermore, under Uzodimma’s leadership, education in Imo state has drastically improved. His commitment to education is reflected in his efforts to provide Skill-Up digital knowledge to numerous Imo youths. According to World Bank data, quality education directly influences economic development and social progress. Thus, Uzodimma’s dedication to improving the educational sector such as the tertiary level signifies his commitment to driving the state’s future growth.
The governor’s emphasis on social welfare is another reason for his deserving re-election. His administration has fostered welfare through various programmes, such as the distribution of palliatives to the most vulnerable and enhancing healthcare delivery systems in the state. His commendable attempt to prioritize the wellbeing of the people places him as a leader who truly cares for his constituents.
The dynamism of Uzodimma’s administration extends into the realm of security. Imo state, no doubt has witnessed security challenges, however, such problems are not peculiar to the State alone. The governor nonetheless has tried to braze up the challenges by setting up of “Operation Search and Flush” and implementation of community policing to secure lives and property. In that regard, he has been making frantic effort to curtail the security obstruction in the State.
Critics of his administration contend that Uzodimma’s tenure has been marked by political intolerance. However, according to a policy review report by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Uzodimma’s administration is noted to be working progressively to strengthen both the anti-corruption institutions in the state and he is liberally-minded. It is also noteworthy that Governor Uzodimma’s administration has embraced the opposition in so many ways. Visible in this regard is his ability to extend appointment of key positions to members in the opposition parties which had endeared him to many. His openness to governance has no doubt, made it possible for those in opposition to embrace his style and are decamping to his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their numbers. Thus, even in the face of criticism, Uzodimma shows a dedication to rectifying the state’s malaise, which deserves admiration.
In conclusion, Governor Hope Uzodimma’s unprecedented achievements in infrastructure, education, social welfare, and security combined with his political will to tackle other areas of governance have positioned him as a leader who deserves another term in office.
Therefore, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma should be re-elected as the Governor of Imo State come November 11, 2023. This is very key to cement and implement fully the newly conceived and rebranded “Imo Charter of Equity”. By allowing the incumbent governor to complete his Constitutionally empowered eight years in office, it will make an easy way for an Owerri zone and subsequently the Okigwe zone candidates to emerge afterwards.
Imo State shall move forward, if we all agree.
